Summertime, and the living’s easy…

Or at least it’s supposed to be, right? Somehow my summer ended up being a lot busier than I planned, but I’m not complaining!

This past spring I completed an internship for class (LIS 440: Archival Access and Use) at the Schlesinger Library, a part of the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University. It’s a library and archives dedicated to the study of American women. I had a great experience, working on a digitization project with the photographs of Ruth Handler, former president of Mattel and the inventor of the Barbie Doll.

I'm not going to lie, I really enjoyed looking at photos like this one all day (from the Schlesinger Library: http://via.lib.harvard.edu:80/via/deliver/deepLinkItem?recordId=olvwork484691&componentId=RAD.SCHL:3717506)

My supervisor must have liked me, because when they had extra funding for a paid summer intern, she asked me to stay on! I had planned on goofing off a little bit this summer–it’s my last summer before graduating and entering the real world–but there was no way I could turn down an opportunity like this! So now I’ll be taking two classes, working at the Schlesinger, and continuing my work for the admissions office. And did I mention that I’m supposed to finish my research this summer for my history thesis? Maybe I’ll have time to relax after the summer is over…
