I started volunteering at my local library when I started the program in January, and three weeks later, someone on the staff quit and I was offered the job! The Assistant Director is a GSLIS alum and was happy to have someone to step into the empty shoes right away. And even if no openings appear, the volunteer effort will look good on your resume, too.
