Web Services Librarian, Minuteman Library Network, Natick, MA

Minuteman Library Network (MLN) seeks an innovative and creative individual to serve as a full-time Web Services Librarian, working at the MLN Network office in Natick MA, as part of the User Services team.

The successful candidate should be creative, flexible, energetic and able to communicate well with all levels of library staff.

MLN is a multi-type automated library consortium comprised of 35 public libraries and 7 academic libraries west of Boston. The User Services department plays a major role in presenting the public face of our services via our website, our online public catalog, our Help/FAQ documents, and more.

Responsibilities:

  • Designs, configures, and maintains the MLN online public catalog. Designs and maintains websites for patrons and staff including the library staff intranet and the public web page presence.
  • Develops and conducts training sessions for organization staff in searching the online catalog and other online systems. Develops training documentation as needed.
  • Develops and maintains websites for member library subscribed electronic resources and works with Systems staff to develop patron authentication and other web services.
  • Assists in the support of the automated Circulation, Holds system, and the Massachusetts Virtual Catalog.
  • Assists in the training and support of Innovative reporting tools, including Create Lists, Millennium Statistics, and Web Management Reports.
  • Maintains the Help and Frequently Asked Questions sections of the online catalog and responds to comments and inquiries addressed to the Webmaster.
  • Performs special projects and other related duties as required, directed, or as the situation dictates.

Reports to Head, User Services

Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA accredited institution and three to five years of increasingly responsible related experience in a public or academic library, including web design experience and programming.
  • Experience in web development and design as well as knowledge of programming languages and principles (HTML, CSS, javascript, PERL). Understanding of PHP and relational databases (MySQL)
  • Experience in administering and maintaining a content management system (preferably Drupal)
  • Experience with Integrated Library Systems (ILS), preferably Millennium.
  • Knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office, and other software necessary for assigned duties (Photoshop, Dreamweaver, etc.)
  • Ability to work independently and use professional judgment to solve problems.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize tasks and projects, and work in a constantly changing environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, and to collaborate with individuals and groups.
  • Experience in conducting training sessions and giving presentations.
  • Experience providing telephone and email support.
  • Familiarity with issues of consortia.

Salary range:
$48K – $68K annually, based on experience
Benefits include health insurance, 403B, 3 weeks vacation
