The Head of Circulation Services at the Haverhill Public Library manages all aspects of circulation in a busy, urban library, including the supervision of five staff. This person reports to the Library Director and is a member of the Library’s management team with responsibility for fiction collection development, coordination of outreach services, and rotating night/weekend supervision of the building. The successful candidate will be a proven leader with a demonstrated ability to manage a highly-skilled staff in a fast-paced library that is known for outstanding customer service. Demonstrated knowledge of new library technologies and the ability to troubleshoot an Evergreen OpenSource ILS and 3M sorting and self-check technologies are critical. A strong interest and commitment to the role of circulation in a public library is highly desirable.

The ideal candidate has a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution; an equivalent combination of education and work experience will be considered. Three to five years of experience supervising full-time staff is required. The Haverhill Public Library serves a community of 62,000 nestled along the banks of the Merrimack River. The Library has a reputation for cutting-edge technology solutions, community outreach, and outstanding customer service. This position requires demonstrated proficiencies in the use of automated systems, information services, and trends and best practices in the delivery of library and information services. Strong interpersonal skills, an interest in delivering innovative public library services, and the ability to train staff and public are critical. Must be able to set priorities and work with frequent interruptions.
