Summary Description of Position:
The Graduate School of Library and
Information Science (GSLIS) at Simmons College seeks a full time
Curriculum Support Developer for online and web-based initiatives,
consisting of online courses, certificate programs, and degree-seeking
programs for specific groups in library and information science (LIS),
including the Online Instructional Technology School Library Licensure
program, the Online Certificate in Digital Stewardship, and Archives
Online, among others, http://www.simmons.edu/gslis/online/. GSLIS online
initiatives are distinguished by high touch, digital experiential
learning using LIS systems and technology. Currently, the Digital
Curriculum Lab (DCL), http://calliope.simmons.edu/dcl710/, is the
environment supporting archival and preservation online teaching and
learning. The DCL is a Drupal framework, containing digital asset
management applications, digital content, tools, standards and scenarios
to provide students and faculty in the archival education community with
hands-on experience with archival and preservation processes in virtual
environments. This position will be responsible for content acquisition,
presentation, and web development, currently in Drupal. This position
will help develop the DCL Drupal web site interface, will work with
faculty on the information architecture of the site, will support
faculty in the development and installation of learning modules, and
will support student online learning. Marketing the online curriculum
support requires instruction and workshop presentations for faculty and
students. This position is also responsible for meeting the requirements
of the service level agreements (SLAs) with Simmons Technology for the
various servers involved with GSLIS education initiatives. This position
markets and migrates tools, applications, and interfaces from online
learning support to face-to-face classes. This position participates in
the support of the GSLIS Technology and serves on the GSLIS Technology
Team.

Position Requirements: (Education and Experience)
Required:
* Demonstrated familiarity with installing open source software and
packages on a variety of operating systems
* Familiarity with Drupal as a web building framework
* Demonstrated web application development.
* Demonstrated support for web applications, for example, Apache,
Tomcat, and others
* Demonstrated familiarity with online pedagogy or learning management
systems
* Some familiarity with server administration
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
* Exceptional problem solving skills, creativity, and initiative
* Excellent customer service skills
* Demonstrated ability to work independently
* Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
* College graduate

Preferred:
* Experience with web application development in support of customer
needs using, for example, using php/MySQL, Java, JavaScript, etc.
* Familiarity with LIS and archives digital asset management systems,
the library and information science (LIS) and archives educational
environment, or the LIS and archives faculty and students who are the
primary clients.
* LIS/Archives MS degree
