BRANCH SERVICES COORDINATOR

SALARY:
$60,443.66 – $77,808.68 annually; $28.96 – $37.28 hourly
A professional, supervisory position under the direction of the Head Librarian. Creates amazing experiences for library customers and connects them with the information they seek.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Plans, analyzes and evaluates all aspects of branch and mobile library services and operations; makes recommendations and takes appropriate action
• Works collaboratively on strategic plan
• Recommends and monitors all branch and mobile services budgets
• Prepares bid specifications
• Develops strong community partnerships with appropriate community agencies, schools, etc.
• Participates in selecting and training enthusiastic staff
• Supervises, schedules, coordinates, and evaluates branch staff; disciplines if needed
• Maintains the most up-to-date knowledge of the wide variety of services provided for branch and mobile libraries
• Participates in fulfilling system-wide goals and developing and implementing policies/procedures for branch and mobile services
• Builds, manages and promotes extraordinary collections in all formats
• Connects customers with the best bibliographic searches/inquiries using every possible resource
• Hosts, coordinates, creates, conducts and implements inventive programming
• Monitors branch and vehicle maintenance and determines need for repairs and improvements in cooperation with the Head Librarian and Buildings Manager
• Provides instruction and assistance directly to customers on the use of all library services
• Interprets goals and policies to customers and staff
• Prepares reports, statistics, and other documents as assigned
• Stays informed about professional and community developments affecting the library and librarianship
• Acts as Librarian-In-Charge when assigned
• Performs other duties, as assigned, consistent with the functions of the work unit and level of responsibility

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATION STANDARDS FOR PERFORMING ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate with professional and paraprofessional staff about concepts, ideas, and requirements
• Demonstrate proficiency in current and emerging technologies and their applications
• Experience and familiarity with reference services, print and electronic resources
• Knowledge of the philosophy and functions of a public library
• Ability to plan short-term and long-term work objectives with staff
• Ability to assign tasks and to follow-up to ensure quality of work and completeness of tasks
• Ability to take initiative in improving existing work techniques and procedures
• Ability and willingness to assume responsibility
• Ability to effectively respond to needs of customers of all age groups
• Ability to organize, direct, coordinate, coach and supervise the work of others
• Excellent public speaking skills
• Ability to resolve conflict with staff/customers
• Thorough knowledge of the practical application of computer operations

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Master’s degree in Library Science from a Graduate School of Library Science accredited by the American Library Association or approved by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners

Experience: Three years of professional library work after receipt of MLS with broad working knowledge of general reference practices in public libraries

Schedule: Includes evening and weekend assignments and working at other locations

Travel: Ability to get to other locations in a timely manner

Other: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently walk, stand, bend, stoop and reach above the head. Strength is needed to push loaded book trucks. The ability to work with the public for periods of a minimum of two hours at a time while maintaining good communication
