RESERVES/INTERLIBRARY LOAN STUDENT WORKER, BEATLEY LIBRARY, SIMMONS COLLEGE

Supervisors: Access Services Library Assistants
Hours: 8-12 hours/week, in 2-4 hour shifts, during regular business hours (Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm); may vary during holidays and breaks
Pay: $10.00/hour

As a member of the Information Services team, the Reserves/Interlibrary Loan (ILL) student worker contributes to the Library’s mission: “Beatley Library connects the Simmons College community to information, discovery, and learning.”

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide excellent customer service to Beatley Library users and staff and to other libraries
• Fill requests from other libraries for materials from Beatley (ILL lending)
• Fill requests from users for materials from other libraries (ILL borrowing)
• Fill requests from users for materials from Beatley (document delivery)
• Fill requests from faculty for materials to be placed on course reserve
• Maintain users’ privacy and confidentiality of users’ requests

SPECIFIC DUTIES

• Use computer systems to monitor multiple request queues and process requests
• Search library discovery tools, including catalogs and e-resources
• Search for, create, and update user, resource, and transaction records in library management systems
• Locate, retrieve, and shelve books, media, and other items organized by Library of Congress Classification and Dewey Decimal Classification in stacks; maintain order of items in stacks
• Scan articles and book chapters from print and microform sources
• Send articles and book chapters via secure electronic transmission, cloud storage, email, and fax
• Apply labels and package items for shipment; open packages
• Deliver items to offices on the Simmons campuses
• Respond to user questions and problems with requests via email, telephone, and in person
• Communicate questions, atypical situations, and user feedback to supervisors
• Other duties as assigned

The Circulation and Adult Services librarian is responsible for overseeing the Circulation Department and Adult Services. Under the supervision of the Library Director, performs responsible and varied administrative and professional library work related to planning, organizing, and directing the activities of the Circulation and Adult Services Departments.

Adult Services: Manages all activities associated with adult programming including scheduling, and running programs. Working with Director, define adult program schedule for the year. Responsible for adult collection management; such as the acquisition of new materials, managing to the materials budget and weeding the collection. Provide reference and reader’s advisory services for adults and seniors, including outreach opportunities.

Circulation: Manage all activities relating to Circulation in the library. Identifies and implements best practices for circulation procedures and services, subject to approval by the Library Director. Assigns job tasks to Circulation Assistants and Pages and verifies accuracy of assignments; creates circulation desk work schedules; trains Circulation Assistants in computerized circulation functions; covers at circulation desk. Trains staff on the use of the integrated library system, and online calendar system
Assume responsibility for the library in absence of the Director. Attends relevant workshops and programs, demonstrating commitment to continued professional development. Performs other duties as requested.

Full time position working 40 hrs/wk, including one week night and one weekend per month.

Salary: $40,000 and includes town benefits

Qualifications
Requirements: MLS from an ALA-accredited institution and experience at a public library preferred. Requires excellent customer service skills, some technology skills (familiarity with e-book devices a plus), and excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to coordinate and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines. Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills. Proven record of dependability, flexibility, and willingness to accept, implement and lead change.

The Providence Community Library is seeking a full time Library Supervisor to manage the operation of three or more neighborhood libraries. This includes developing and implementing a program of services which includes reference and information services as well as a variety of programs for adults and children. He/she may also review and select library materials for addition to the library collection, and works with librarians and staff at other neighborhood libraries to develop library services. The Library Supervisor also provides direct service to patrons.

The Library Supervisor is the Providence Community Library’s liaison with the local community, and a key player in creating and sustaining positive relationships. He/she is expected to develop collections and services which are responsive to community needs and a staff which is dedicated to outstanding customer service. He or she is expected to establish productive relationships with community groups and agencies, and to develop and implement a range of library services which are tailored to the needs of the neighborhood.

Neighborhood library service provides a librarian with a wonderful opportunity to contribute to the community. Library Supervisors meet and get to know a wide variety of people, and to help them by providing an essential service. General Description of Duties:

The Dartmouth Library seeks a forward-thinking, enthusiastic, and intellectually curious individual as its next Head of Access & Delivery Services. Reporting to the Associate Librarian for User Services, the successful candidate will provide strategic leadership and develop long-range plans for Access & Delivery Services areas and technologies within the Dartmouth Library system to meet the evolving needs for managing the Library’s physical collection while building on the exceptional delivery services supporting faculty, students, staff, and other library users.

Responsible for managing the Baker-Berry Library Access Services areas of circulation, reserves, resource sharing, and stacks maintenance; the off-campus shelving facilities; and the Library’s Shipping & Receiving operations, the Head of Access & Delivery Services directly supervises five staff and oversees a department of twenty-nine. The Head also works closely with other library and college departments to ensure a coordinated approach to services. The individual in this position will be knowledgeable of broad issues of importance to the library profession and maintain expert level knowledge of trends, policy issues and new technologies having particular relevance to Access Services.
