Summary:
Syracuse University Library seeks an energetic, team-oriented librarian with at least two years of professional experience, excellent technological skills, a strong service orientation, and a background in business or a related field to serve as a subject specialist and reference librarian for business and related subject areas. This individual will work with a team of librarians and support staff in an active, student-centered research library environment. The Syracuse University Library, with collections of nearly three million volumes, is actively pursuing electronic and digital initiatives as part of its strategic directions and initiatives.

Responsibilities:
• Serve as subject specialist in business, management, and related studies.
• Serve as liaison to business and management programs located in the Martin J. Whitman School of Management (SOM) which includes departments of accounting, finance, law and public policy, marketing and transportation, strategy and human resources, and quantitative methods; and the Falk School of Sport and Human Dynamics. Both colleges support undergraduate, masters, doctoral, and professional programs.
• Provide information and research services
• Provide in-depth research support (conduct one-on-one research consultations, provide subject-based reference services, etc.) in assigned disciplines. Provide a full range of general and multi-disciplinary information services including consultative, referral, phone, by-appointment and digital reference services.

Title: Wildlife Conservation Society (Bronx Zoo) Archives Internship

(two openings; nominal stipend available)

The Project: As part of a grant-funded project, the Wildlife Conservation Society Archives is developing a website to display digitized copies of early-twentieth-century scrapbooks. Created by the Bronx Zoo’s first director, William T. Hornaday, these scrapbooks concern early wildlife conservation laws and activities.

The Internship: Reporting directly to the WCS Librarian & Archivist, the Archives Interns will be responsible for creating original descriptive metadata records for the digitized scrapbooks.

Qualifications: Enrollment in (or recent completion of) a Master’s degree program in Library Science, with a focus on Archives, from an ALA-accredited institution. Proven experience with Microsoft Excel. Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently. Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Internships at the WCS Archives are a learning experience, but students who have experience with Dublin Core and with Omeka software are encouraged to apply. An interest in early scrapbooks and/or the history of wildlife conservation is also useful.

Schedule: 12 weeks (scheduled between June 3-August 30, 2013), 10 hours a week, for a total of 120 hours. Work must be scheduled within 9:00-5:00, Monday-Friday.

The Organizational Performance and Assessment Librarian (Analyst) is responsible for collecting and analyzing data useful for planning and delivering system wide programs and services to Queens Library customers. This position will report to the VP for Strategy and Organizational Development and works closely with library departments and units to analyze and report assessment data. Represents the library in local, regional and national metrics reporting, assessment and evaluation efforts. Evaluates effectiveness of library assessment efforts. Recommends ways to strengthen assessment and evaluation programs. Collects and analyzes data on the immigrant population in Queens and other demographic groups and oversees databases. Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science with a minimum of 5 years of experience in data collection and analysis is required. Must possess strong analytical and innovative problem-solving skills and strong commitment to service excellence. Demonstrated ability to work successfully in team environment and individually. Experience working with library specific assessment tools in academic or research library. Must have a working knowledge of a variety of survey, demographic and statistical analysis tools. Geographic Information Systems software knowledge preferred. The ability to fluently read, write and speak at least one principal Queens’ international languages, in addition to English is preferred. Must demonstrate initiative and have the ability to launch and manage projects from inception to completion. Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, technical and organizational skills and attention to detail are required. Must be proficient and knowledgeable in MS Office Suite (Microsoft Access, Excel and Word software, PowerPoint), Web-enabled applications and emerging technologies as applied to data collection, library and public service assessment.

Spring and Summer 2013 Special Project Internships, Lesbian Herstory Archives, Brooklyn NY

The Lesbian Herstory Archives (located in Park Slope, Brooklyn, NYC) is looking for graduate and undergraduate students who are interested in library and/or archives with a demonstrated interest in Lesbian Studies, History and Activism. If there is a particular area of Lesbian Studies you’re interested in, we want to know!

We have a number of exciting projects going on this spring and summer including the digitization of our newsprint collection, ongoing digitization of our audio collection, processing the video oral histories of the Daughter’s of Bilitis and The L.O.V.E. Collective, programming and planning for Women’s History month and LGBT Pride (as well as providing reference services and research assistance to researchers and visitors).

Audio Digitization – 2 Spaces

Interns will assist with the cataloging, digitization, indexing and re-housing of audio tapes.

OPAC Working Group – 2 Spaces

Interns will perform database cleanup in a variety of collections and contribute to the design, testing and launch of the LHA’s new OPAC. Collections currently being added include the t-shirt collection, graphics, film/video, special collections and books

2013-2014 Short-Term Research Fellowships, New York Public library

The New York Public Library is pleased to offer Short-Term Research Fellowships to support visiting scholars from outside the New York metropolitan area engaged in graduate-level, post-doctoral, and independent research. Fellowship stipends are $1,000 per week for up to four weeks and fellows must be in residence at the Library for a minimum of two weeks between July 1, 2013 and June 30, 2014. Individuals needing to conduct on-site research in the Library’s special collections to support projects in the humanities including but not limited to art history, cultural studies, history, literature, performing arts and photography are welcome to apply. Applicants must be United States citizens or permanent residents with the legal right to work in the U.S.

In 2013-2014, the Library will offer additional fellowships to support the study of food and society focusing on manuscript cookbooks and related archival collections held by the Library. With support from the Pine Tree Foundation, the Food Studies Fellowships are intended to support multidisciplinary research and expose individuals working in the area of food studies to manuscript recipe books and archival collections held at the Library. Applicants for this fellowship should follow the same guidelines as the Short-Term Research Fellowship program.
