The Providence Community Library is seeking a full time Library Supervisor to manage the operation of three or more neighborhood libraries. This includes developing and implementing a program of services which includes reference and information services as well as a variety of programs for adults and children. He/she may also review and select library materials for addition to the library collection, and works with librarians and staff at other neighborhood libraries to develop library services. The Library Supervisor also provides direct service to patrons.

The Library Supervisor is the Providence Community Library’s liaison with the local community, and a key player in creating and sustaining positive relationships. He/she is expected to develop collections and services which are responsive to community needs and a staff which is dedicated to outstanding customer service. He or she is expected to establish productive relationships with community groups and agencies, and to develop and implement a range of library services which are tailored to the needs of the neighborhood.

Neighborhood library service provides a librarian with a wonderful opportunity to contribute to the community. Library Supervisors meet and get to know a wide variety of people, and to help them by providing an essential service. Strong interest in others and a desire to make a difference are essential for success, as are a high degree of organization, good communication skills, and supervisory abilities.

Requirements: MLS from an ALA accredited program. Five years of professional library experience which includes supervisory management experience with at least 3 years in a public library setting. English/Spanish Bilingual Preferred. Outside applicants must be willing to undergo a BCI check.

The Supervisor of Technical Services leads a department of 3 full-time workers plus part-time materials processing staff charged with creating easy customer access to information. He/she works with the Assistant Director in the administration of the Innovative Interfaces automation system.  The department is in charge of ordering, receiving, and database maintenance along with financial management and essential record keeping and analysis of data to assist with library-wide decision making

The Supervisor of Technical Services works with the Library Director, Assistant Director and 3 other department supervisors in goal setting, assessment, and general design of excellent library services.  This person has a finger on the pulse of the rapidly evolving ebook/emedia marketplace including the technologies and business implications driving change.

The successful candidate will have a commitment to ongoing professional development for him/herself and for other members of the Tech Services team and will support team members’ participation in activities throughout the library.

He/she will have the communication and public relations skills to deal effectively with both coworkers and the library’s diverse clientele, and will expand beyond the back room to active customer assistance.

Salary Range:   $46,197 — $59, 173 in 7 steps

Education and Experience:  Masters degree in Library/Information Science and 2 years of supervisory experience.

Description:
Manage and supervise evening law library operations and circulation activities. Supervise all student employees; assist library users; enforce library policies and be responsible for closing and securing the two library locations. Also manage and supervise looseleaf and microfiche filing, and other circulation activities as needed.

Qualifications:
Requires: B.A./B.S. or equivalent. One to three years of supervisory experience in library public services, and library circulation experience. Experience with legal materials preferred. The hours of the position are Sunday – Thursday 3:30 – 11:30PM. During the summer the hours are Monday – Friday 9AM – 5PM.

QUAL: Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science; two years supervisory experience in a public library; knowledge of electronic resource applications; competence in troubleshooting access to electronic resources; problem solving, analytical, computer and organizational skills; knowledge of the Dewey Decimal Classification System and its application; and thorough understanding of all aspects of library automation, particularly the III cataloging and acquisitions modules.

DUTIES: The incumbent is responsible for the acquisition and processing of print and media collections and establishing access to all online resources of the Wellesley Free Library (WFL); oversees the day-to-day operations of the Technical Services Department; and directly supervises Departmental personnel and activities. The incumbent organizes, maintains, and supports the WFL’s holdings of online, print, and media resources in the Minuteman Library Network (MLN) Catalog. The work requires demonstrated knowledge of the WFL’s automated system, up-to-date knowledge of online, print and media products, and the ability to communicate and work effectively with all other WFL departments in order to identify problems, and analyze, plan, and implement projects.
