Young Adult Programs Internship, Medway (MA) Public Library

Medway Public Library
26 High Street
Medway, MA 02053
Supervisor: Margaret Perkins
Email: mperkins@minlib.net

Website: www.medwaylib.org

Internship Description
This internship is project-based, and will involve planning and presenting a variety of programs for young adults, on a very limited budget. The position may involve writing applications for small grants. Due to the Medway Public Library’s limited funding, we currently offer only a few family programs, and no specific programming for young adults. We are hoping to start a young adult book group and/or a teen advisory council, and would like to find a creative and enthusiastic intern to plan and run these and other young adult programs in the fall. Scheduling is flexible. The library will be open 10:00-8:00 on Monday, 2:00-8:00 Tuesday – Thursday, and 10-2 on Friday and Saturday. The Medway Library does not currently have a children’s or a young adult librarian. The intern would work closely with an experienced staff member who currently plans almost all the programs for children and families. This staff member works Wednesday – Friday. In addition, the intern would work with the MLS Acting Director, who works all day Monday, as well as Tuesday – Friday mornings, with other staff members, and with community organizations such as the Medway Community Farm. This position offers ample scope for the imagination and an excellent opportunity to gain experience in young adult programming. We are excited about the possibility of working with an intern from Simmons, a collaboration that will greatly benefit both the student and our young patrons.

Desired Qualifications
One or more courses in services or literature for children or young adults and a strong interest in programming for young adults.
