DUTIES: The Wilmington Memorial Library is currently seeking an energetic, friendly, tech savvy professional to fill an opening for a full-time Teen Services Librarian. Responsibilities include selecting and maintaining the teen collection, reference and readers advisory for teens and children, developing innovative programming and outreach to teens in middle school through high school. Is part of the Youth Services team and provides support and coverage in the Children’s Room. Assists Technology Librarian with presentation of technology programs/classes and with technology based services that meet teens’ needs. This position offers the opportunity to work in a team oriented friendly environment open to innovation and making the library an integral part of the community.

QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s Degree in Library Science with knowledge of classic and contemporary teen literature; Experience in planning and managing teens programs and events is preferred. The Head of Youth Services at the Haverhill Public Library has overall responsibility for the delivery of Youth Services at a busy, service-oriented, urban library. Under general direction, the Head of Youth Services coordinates the delivery of services and programs to children and young adults; supervises childrens’ and teen services staff; is responsible for bilingual collection development; assists customers in identifying and locating materials using electronic, print and other resources; and trains customer in the use of all resources. The Head of Youth Services is a member of the Library’s management team with responsibility for some evening and weekend supervision of the building.

The ideal candidate has a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution and 3 to 5 years of supervisory experience in the Youth Services department of a public library. CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS:

Under the direction of the Director, the Youth Services Librarian manages the children’s and young adult departments. This includes the selection of materials, collection development, programming, reader’s advisory, reference, outreach, and planning. Some supervision of personnel assigned to the children’s and/or young adult area is involved. This person also is responsible for library operations in the absence of the Director.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must have an MLS from an ALA – accredited program.
2. A minimum of 2 year’s experience working with children and young adults is required.
3. The ability to work with the schools and day care facilities is necessary.
4. Excellent knowledge of children’s and young adult literature is required.
5. Good storytelling and book talking skills are needed.
6. Team work is essential.
7. Knowledge of an integrated library computer system as well as personal computers is vital.
8. Experience with creative programming is a must.
9. Ability to teach all ages digital literacy required.
10. Administrative experience in a library setting is required.

ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Internship, Star Island Vaughn Cottage Museum & Library, Star Island NH

Star Island, New England’s most unique summer island, seeks an intern to assist our seasonal Museum Curator in operating and organizing the Vaughn Cottage Museum and Library during the summer of 2013.

Duties include:
- Staffing museum during open hours by greeting guests, answering questions, maintaining security of items, and providing customer service.
- Facilitating educational programming for youth groups (ages preschool through high school).
- Lead historical tours of Star Island (tour themes are general island history and ghosts & graveyards).
- Lead historical tours of Appledore Island
- Provide support to Curator through cataloging and upgrading to digital records.
- Special projects as assigned by Curator.

This internship is unpaid and includes room and board while on island in dormitory style housing. Island residency is required 5-6 days per week with a specific schedule coordinated with the Curator.

Physical demands:
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
- Requires standing, stretching, bending, walking, lifting, climbing stairs, and transporting equipment; working at a computer; must be physically and mentally capable of functioning in a fast-paced work environment in a community setting.
- Must be able to walk around island with uneven and rocky terrain.

Qualifications:
- Experience with teaching and leading tours.
- Currently enrolled in museum studies or library science program at an accredited university or college.

The Hollis Social Library in Hollis, NH is seeking a Youth Services Librarian to provide dynamic service to children, young adults, their families and caregivers. Under the supervision of the Library Director, the Youth Services Librarian will develop and maintain the collection and create a welcoming and inviting area within the library for children and young adults. Duties also include developing and executing youth programs such as the Summer Reading Program.

Duties:

The Town of Stow is seeking a qualified candidate for the part time position of Youth Services Librarian at the Randall Public Library.

Rate of Pay: $21.25 per hour Hours of Employment: 28 hours per week

Duties/Description:

The Rockland Memorial Library is seeking an enthusiastic and creative professional to fill the position of Youth Services Librarian. Under the general direction of the Library Director, the Youth Services Librarian provides direct service to children, young adults, and adults working with these population groups. Directs and supervises the youth services function of the library including collection development for the young adult and children’s collections, and supervises staff assigned to the children’s room. Provides outreach services and partners with schools and other community groups. Plans, publicizes, and conducts weekly pre-school story times, weekly pre-literacy (newborn to 3.5 yrs) programs, annual Summer Reading program, and other youth programs. Maintain the Children’s Room blog and the Young Adult Facebook page, and other social media.

Must be experienced in automated circulation systems and have a demonstrated level of computer literacy. Duties will also include presenting formal programs of library skills instruction to school groups and the public. Works collaboratively with Circulation and Reference departments to ensure excellent public service.

Excellent interpersonal skills required. Previous experience as a Children’s or Youth Services Librarian in a public or school library preferred.

This is a professional, 35-hour a week, exempt position, including at least one evening and, in future, may include some weekend hours. Duties/Description:
Responsible for overseeing the daily operation and scheduling of all desks at the Mason Square Branch Library. Work is performed in accordance with accepted practices and procedures in the field of library science related to youth services with considerable latitude for the exercise of independent professional judgment under the general direction of the Manager of Public Services who reviews work through observation, reports and conferences. The Plaistow Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic and creative Head of Youth Services. This is a part-time permanent position for 35 hours a week with benefits. The successful candidate will perform varied professional, technical and clerical work in the Youth Services Department including reader’s advisory and collection development. Programming for children and teens is required as well as assisting in circulation and day-to-day library operations. Other activities include preparing crafts, designing bulletin boards and displays and assisting in the general upkeep and organization of the youth area. Outreach to the schools and community is also an important aspect of this job.

Qualifications and skills: MLS degree preferred; MLS candidates given strong consideration. Experience in education and working with children from birth to age 18 is strongly desired. Supervisory skills are necessary for this position. Candidate must be familiar with automated integrated library systems and emerging technologies.

Proficiency in children’s and teen literature, social media, downloadable technology, Microsoft Office products and strong customer service are a must. The library requires this candidate to work as part of a team, to be able to multi-task and to have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
