With the end of the semester is nigh, it only makes sense we should celebrate. With art! So, with the coming of summer and (hopefully) warmer weather, a few things you might consider for that break from school…
1) The DeCordova Sculpture Park. Located in Lincoln, MA, and featuring up to 75 pieces of artwork at any given time, it’s open Tuesday-Sunday, 10-5. Student admission is $8.
2) The Peabody Essex Museum currently has 2 exhibits of interest. Fiery Pool: The Maya and the Mythic Sea is on display through July 18, 2010, and among other things, has information on the Mayan contribution to the history of chocolate. Also currently on display are Kennedy Family Portraits, and Indian Sculpture. If you’ve not already seen PEM’s Trash Menagerie, which features art made entirely from trash and recycled materials, the exhibit runs through may 23rd. What better way to celebrate the end of the semester than to make an origami turtle from recycled magazine pages?
3) The Dr. Lakra exhibit at the ICA will run through September 6, 2010. Successfully simultaneously charming and offensive, this exhibit will challenge your cultural views and identities.
