Before becoming a librarian, Rebecca Metzger was a marketing and public relations specialist for art museums, arts organizations, and individual artists. During this time, she placed articles in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Vogue, Village Voice and on NPR and NY1 television, among other major news outlets. She also secured commissions and raised funds for artist projects. She has worked at small and large academic libraries – in reference, instruction, and outreach.
Currently, as AUL for Outreach and Academic Collaboration at UC Santa Barbara Library, Rebecca oversees all publications, website, public programming, exhibits, communications, and outreach. Under her leadership, the Library recently launched a mobile site, installed digital signage, and attracted the largest audience yet (900 attendees) for the author visit of UCSB’s one-book program. As UCSB Library prepares to break ground on a $76 million, two-and-a-half-year Addition & Renovation Project—while remaining fully open and functional—Rebecca has been tasked with managing the library’s public relations efforts.
Rebecca is currently the co-chair of LLAMA’s PR Xchange Best of Show Committee. She is a past chair of ACRL’s Instruction Section’s Management and Leadership Committee, a 2008 participant of ACRL’s Immersion program, and a 2009 ALA Emerging Leader. Rebecca graduated from Simmons GSLIS in January 2006.
Rebecca Metzger currently has no scheduled workshops.
