Throw that out! : Effective Collection Development and Weeding in a Digital Age

Are your files, work spaces, and library shelves optimally organized and current? Is it time to focus on these critical aspects of library service as you move your library forward?

This course will examine:

  • Inventory and Collection Strategies
  • Balancing your Physical and Digital holdings
  • Records Retention and effective document management
  • Weeding Criteria and the weeding process
  • Integrating Technology in your Collections
  • Organizations of Knowledge

Participants will leave this course with cleaner work spaces, offices, and well-edited library shelves. All participants will gain practical collection development and/or tech integration experience by completing a Course Project centering on a specific segment of their collection.

Bonnie Roalsen: Bonnie Roalsen is Head of Children's Services at the Dover Town Library, and an Independent Consultant specializing in mobile technology, digital literacy, creative programming, and youth services. Bonnie was named a Library Journal Mover & Shaker in 2007 for her work incorporating digital media and tools into public library service.
