Teen Lit Boot Camp: Romance
$250 (Simmons SLIS Alumni Price $200)
February 1 - February 28, 2013 - PDPs: 15
Part of Teen Lit Boot Camp Series
Designed for librarians who are not necessarily genre fans, Teen Lit Boot Camp is a series of month-long workshops which will zero in on currently popular genres and help librarians learn what defines each, what the best titles are, and how to anticipate, and select for your teen fans. In this workshop, Romance, we’ll examine the history of the genre in mainstream and young adult fiction, the trademark characteristics fans seek out, the appeal of the genre, and identify classics and recent favorites. We will cover category romances, relationship-focused novels, the elements which appeal to guys and girls, and just what defines a romance (rather than a title with romance in it.) We will also discuss the stereotypes surrounding the genre, the diversification of the genre, and how to pitch titles to fans as well as readers who reject romances. There will be a reading list, so sign up early to give yourself time.
