Part of Teen Lit Boot Camp Series

Teen Lit Boot Camp is a series of month-long workshops zeroing in on currently popular topics, The workshops will help librarians learn what defines hot topics, what the best titles are to meet demand, and how to anticipate and select for your teen fans. In this workshop, Graphic Novels and Japanese Manga, we’ll take a slightly different tack: this is not a course that will explain the theory and history of the format so much as provide students with the chance to dig in to the diversity of titles, read in depth, and discuss with their fellow students. We will discuss the best creators for clear and compelling presentation, how to distinguish styles and symbols, and compare and contrast popular authors and series. We will also discuss the stereotypes surrounding the format, the diversification of the format, and how to pitch titles to fans as well as readers who dismiss comics. There will be a reading list, so sign up early to give yourself time.
